Nutrition Support Pharmacy Clinical Specialist

UNC Health Care Department of Pharmacy has an immediate opening for a highly-motivated individual interested in joining our Adult Surgery Pharmacy Team as a Nutrition Support Pharmacy Clinical Specialist. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordination of parenteral and enteral nutrition therapy in collaboration with the interdisciplinary Adult Nutrition Support Service. Patients receiving nutrition support therapy are located within any adult medical, transplant, surgical or oncology areas including critical care, all of which offer a broad base of intensive clinical opportunities. The primary area of practice will be with the gastrointestinal surgery team. The Nutrition Support Pharmacy Clinical Specialist will serve as an integral member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team by attending patient-care rounds and providing clinical support to physicians, nurses and other members of the team. The Pharmacy Clinical Specialist will work with the Department of Pharmacy to address institutional and departmental pharmacy-related quality improvement initiatives in addition to providing operational support. The successful Pharmacy Clinical Specialist will provide educational mentorship to pharmacy students, post-graduate year 1 (PGY1), and post-graduate year 2 (PGY2) Pharmacy Residents at UNC Health Care. In addition to providing experiential education to pharmacy students and residents, the Pharmacy Clinical Specialist will take an active role in providing didactic learning activities at UNC’s Eshelman School of Pharmacy and function as a preceptor in the PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy Residency Program.
Education, training, experience:
Completion of a PGY2 specialty residency in Nutrition Support or an equivalent level of experience in nutrition support pharmacy practice is preferred. The designation of Board Certified Nutrition Support Pharmacist (BCNSP), Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS), Certified Nutrition Support Clinician (CNSC), and/or prior experience as a resident and student preceptor is preferred. Requires Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy and two years pharmacist experience or a PharmD Degree. Must be licensed or eligible for licensure to practice pharmacy in the State of North Carolina.
